Rainbow Springs - Specialist Training

Committed to the Very Best Service – This is not just a casting lesson – It’s how to fly fish!

Rainbow Springs specialises in one-on-one training or small focused groups, with a limit of three clients on any given day (without prior arrangements). This ensures participants receive the attention required to “fast track” their fly-fishing skills, without the frustration associated with large school groups or “do-it-yourself” learning. (Please note that larger groups may be catered for on application).

Please apply via the “Contact Us” page of the website and a pricing schedule will be emailed to you for convenience.

You will also find up to date pictures and some great info at our Facebook page. Please “Like Us” to keep in the loop of whats happening in the region, it will benefit your fly fishing.

Full day fly fishing courses are held 5 days a week, starting at 10.00am and finishing just before dark (AEST). Courses are generally two weeks booked out in advance, particularly weekends and around the change of season. On many occasions we are unable to accommodate clients on the days they have free so to avoid our embarrassment and your disappointment please plan ahead and book early.

Beginner, intermediate and advance day courses are specifically tailored to individual skill levels ensuring clients receive the most out of their training, be it casting skills, fishing techniques, fishing situations, freestyle fishing, and much more.

As a general rule, those anglers with at least two years consistent fly fishing experience are encouraged to undertake an intermediate level course, while those with 5 years experience are encouraged to undertake an advanced “freestyle” course. For more information about advanced courses and to experience the pleasure of freestyle fly fishing and the packaging of several casting techniques into a single casting stroke please contact one of our senior instructors to discuss your needs.

Intensive Casting Sessions – Two Hour Blocks:

Casting Sessions
As most clients tend to judge “outcomes” based on their casting ability, the following casting techniques will be taught, discussed and or demonstrated depending on each individual’s progress and if time allows. These are the “must do” in advance courses:

• Short presentations – at the rod tip, hook ’em and they go troppo
• Bow and Arrow casts – ideal in inaccessible areas
• Shadow Casting – exciting the fish, casting to produce an artificial “Hatch”
• Dapping – Using the wind to bring your fly to life, dancing dry flies
• Slack Line Casting – the cheats drift method that gets the “big fish”
• Wiggle Casting – the correct drift down/across stream
• Roll Casting – This is a “must learn”
• Roll Pickup Casting – wait till you see this one
• Double Haul – go the distance, “into the “backing”….
• Reach Casting – using the movement of water, the correct drift made easy
• Split Shot Casting – get your fly down fast, clumsy but effective
• Reverse Casting – beating the obstacles behind you (mandatory casting practice)
• Mending the Line – the perfect drift.

Advanced Full Day Courses
In addition to the above general casting techniques, the packaging of several casting technique, such as a single haul shooting line in a roll cast with a reach mend for the perfect drift, will introduce you to the wonderful world of “freestyle fly fishing”. An extension to these practices include the use of many of the secrets used in national and international fly fishing competitions including the use of sinking lines, Loch style fly fishing, Czech nymphing and French lining techniques. Good form and understanding of these techniques usually results in a new appreciation of what can be achieved in fly fishing.

You Won’t be Disappointed…..
At the end of the day we review what you have learnt, what you need to do if “bad habits” creep into your casting stroke and what you experienced in our guided fishing session.

Our aim is to exceed your expectations by focusing on outcomes specifically tailored to your requirements.

Following your course, our Help Line is available should you require advice.

In addition, a one hour “super intensive casting session” is available if you require a fast track refresher session!
